These are excerpts from Good Bye Joe, a book about my family. As I am currently in the market for a publisher,

I can only post a paragraph or two. If you’d like to read more, shoot me an email at yobodish@yobodish.com.

I was deep asleep when what I thought was thunder woke me up. I listened for it but didn’t hear anything so I started to drift off again when I heard my dad shout, “Stop! I shoot you!”

It was one of those bitter cold winter nights and the streets were thick with ice. Several inches of snow had fallen for two days followed by sleet. No one ventured out and the streets were quiet.

It was close to 2:00 a.m. and Haes was the only one up watching TV. She heard the bathroom door that was connected to her room open and shut. She saw the light turn on but there was no sound. She didn’t think anything of it and continued to watch her movie. Several minutes later, she heard loud rustling and sounds of drawers and cabinets being opened and shut.

She called out, “Hae Jin, what are you looking for?” The rustling stopped and there was no answer.

She got up and knocked on the door and asked, “Hey, what are you doing?” Still no answer. She tried to open the door only to have it slammed back in her face. She crouched down, peeked underneath the door and saw two huge feet clad in red socks.

There was a stranger in the house.

What’s for dinner?
January 11, 2011
2011... Really???
Didn’t you expect to see flying cars by now? Is it really 2011? I remember reading Orwell’s 1984 and thinking how Winston lived in this crazy, unreachable time that only existed in overly creative, bordering on genius minds. Conditions of Oceania haven’t materialized but that didn’t stop Father Time from swooping up huge swaths of days, months and years, leaving me wandering, “Wasn’t it always 2011? No way 1984 ever existed. I’ve been asleep for 7 hours and lost 20 years.”

Anyway, I welcomed 2011 in New Zealand--oysters on the left are NZ’s finest. 2011 is going to be filled with family fun; exciting adventure; grub-worthy food, and a bit of excitement (not sure what kind yet). Watch for new recipes and mouthwatering pics. Cheers to you all!
Happy eating!
